Prepared Diet Meals

Today's discussion will focus on pre-packaged diet weight loss plans. I won't name names so I don't really step on anyone's toes by name. You know the plans I'm referring to; they talk about glycemic control and when you eat their food and you will lose weight. The question is do they work and are they good for you?
First we will address do they work; yes, if you eat only their food you will lose weight. They control the calories in their food; so when you sign up they give you a meal plan to cause weight loss.

Next, are they good for you? The overall answer is no. While there is nothing wrong with the food; it is as nutritious as store-bought, but it does not work unless you eat their food forever. The cost tends to be higher than preparing your own meals so most people quit buying it. If you lost weight you will put it all back on plus another 5-10% more! I hear the question; why is that?

The yo-yo effect is a, well-known, proven medical fact. It is described as a back and forth weight loss, weight gain. If you don't believe a doctor, just Google the "yo-yo effect". This is obviously terrible for your health and self-esteem. This is the problem with the prepared diet meals, the only thing it teaches you is to buy their food. You did not learn how to count calories or make proper food choices for your everyday diet. This is why you revert to the bad eating habits that existed before you purchased the pre-packaged diet program.
So let me sum this up with the pros and cons:
Pros
  • Easy to do
  • Food is nutritious
  • You will lose weight (most likely temporary)
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Have to only eat their food
  • Weight loss stops if you quit the plan
  • Yo-Yo effect is in play ( usually raise your highest weight)
  • Teaches you nothing about proper nutrition
  • Teaches you nothing about proper exercise
I only put a few points I felt were most important, but hopefully you get the idea.
I will finish with this thought; what are you supposed to do to lose weight and finally keep it off for good? Glad you asked. Check out my Bio box for a diet FAQ and more...
