The first time feeding of raw meat
If you are in the habit of feeding your dog commercially prepared dog food, it is a weird and unnerving experience the first time you slice and feed raw meat for your pet. If you should experience these sensations, it will pass. A raw food diet will supply the healthy nutrients which your pet will need.
Vitamin supplements not needed
Food being fed in its natural state will allow the necessary nutrients which your dog needs. There is no need for vitamin supplements. All ages and all cycles of a dog life will be satisfied with nature's abundance. Growing puppies, pregnant dogs, all ages, as well as dogs with diseases. The ingredients in raw dog food will provide for a quality and longer life.
Safe raw foods
Markets which supply meats, vegetables, and fruits take care that their foods are safe raw foods. There are many government rules and regulations which regulate our food sources. And these safety standards must be met.
What is included in a raw diet?
A raw diet includes raw meats, meaty bones, vegetables and fruits.
- Raw meats will provide protein for cell growth and its immune system.
- Raw bones will provide calcium and phosphorous for bone development.
- Chewing on the bones will also help prevent plaque and ensure healthy gums and teeth.
- Vegetables and fruits will provide minerals, Vitamins A, B, C, and K, vital for sensory organs and the immune system.
- Fiber found in the cellulose of the vegetables will aid in the digestion process. The body needs to rid itself of waste products. Our pets need regular bowel movements to help keep the digestive system in good health.
- Supplement raw meat cuttings with liver. Liver supplies iron, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin B12 for strength and maintaining a lean body.
- Fruits supply vitamin C for a healthy immune system. Liver and fruit also provide anti-oxidants which help your dog to fight free radicals which may cause cancer and help to slow the aging process. Berries are a good source of anti-oxidants.
Any animal meat which you are comfortable feeding to your dog may be used. You may purchase organic, natural, fresh, frozen, beef, buffalo, ham, turkey, chicken, and organ meats. Meats may be labeled as for animal consumption or for human consumption. There are varying grades of meats. Meats may be advertised as free range, home-grown, or imported.
Brandy is healthy
Brandy is healthy and doing very well. He is currently 14 years old. In case you are curious, I started with human grade meats and do all preparations in the home. I prepare a large batch once a week; fill containers which are his feeding size and freeze. His treats are cooked chicken strips and leftover bite size home cooked meal leftovers. He weighs 23 pounds showing off a slim and trim healthy body.
